Chabot MLA Handout

MLA Handbook, 7th Edition

You will be given a citation handout in class. However, you can access the online version here. Or you can come in and ask the reference librarian for a hard copy of the handbooks.

You Quote It, You Cite It!

Generating Citations

Many databases allow you to automatically generate citations. This is very convenient but beware:

MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR CITATION MANUALLY!

Many times formatting is lost in the copying and pasting of these citations.  And sometimes they add extra parts to a citation that are not required (In fact, we strongly recommend you do NOT cite as suggested in Pop Culture Universe entries)!

Citation Generators

North Carolina State University has a good citation generator you can find here.

Again, CHECK YOUR WORK MANUALLY! The citations produced by these generators are only as good as the information you plug in. Be careful to input the correct information.
