Read laterally
- leave an unfamiliar site almost immediately
- open new tabs and investigate outside the site itself
- use Google, Wikipedia, or library resources to learn more about the site
- if using Google, scroll down to the bottom of the results, sometimes even go to the second or third page!

Quick Checking List of Questionable Credible News Sites

NOTE: When looking at this list of sites, immediately discount sites listed as fake, unreliable, conspiracy, hate, or junksci. The rest are usually editorial blogs and have some type of bias of which you would then determine if the site treats the subject fairly. If the story from the site is referring to a news story or research report, you would perhaps be better off to first read the original source itself.

Still in development, an app that will let one know via social media (Facebook, Google, etc.) if a news story has been verified or not. Next version of its Chrome Extension should be up in the near future.

Image Reversal Sites

Copy and paste the URL of the news site's image and see where it originally came from! Make sure you copy the image URL or you can download the image and then upload it into these nifty search engines.
