English 001 (Foth)--Fall 2022 : Topics & Sources

You'll need 4 sources:

These must include:

• Article from a scholarly journal.
• A book (chapter or a section)
• Video
• Fourth source?  Double up on any of the sources above

Topics could include, but are not limited to:

• Protest as a form of Art in the Middle East
• A Middle Eastern or North African Artist
• Music as form of dissent in MENA
• Middle Eastern films or a director
• Women in the Middle East (a particular country or issue)
• The state of young people in the Middle East
• The Arab Spring (focus on one country)
• Education in the Middle East
• The Iranian revolution
• A political figure (Mubarek, Qaddafi, Khomeini, Al-Assad, etc.)
• The influence of the West in the Middle East (focus on a particular aspect i.e. Disney, hip hop, Twitter, BLM)

• Being homosexual, bisexual, or transgender in the Middle East
• A topic of your own but must be approved by me.
